Girls Who Code, in partnership with NORWELD, brings free computer science opportunities to elementary, middle, and high school girls across our community to close the gender gap in technology. We would love for your library to join in this cause by hosting a Code Club!
Clubs Program
Girls Who Code Clubs are FREE after-school programs for 3rd-5th or 6th-12th grade girls to join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models and use computer science to change the world.
Clubs are led by Facilitators, who can be teachers, computer scientists, librarians, parents, or volunteers from any background or field. Many Facilitators have NO technical experience and learn to code alongside their Club members.
The curriculum is designed for students with a wide range range of computer science experience, and it includes activities for girls with zero computer science experience all the way up to activities that introduce college-level concepts.
6th-12th Grade Clubs Program
The 6th-12th grade curriculum focuses on a Girls Who Code Project where girls work in teams to solve a real world problem they care about through code.
- Requries a desktop or laptop computer and reliable internet access.
- Girls build character and coding skills as they learn, plan, build, and celebrate together to create a project that they care about.
- Free curriculum and support; meeting guides; and self-guided tutorials.
3rd-5th Grade Clubs Program (NEW!)
This fun and engaging curriculum is a book club model where students learn from Girls Who Code’s best-selling book Learn to Code and Change the World and participate in interactive activities that can be run completely offline with optional online activities.
- Clubs can be run entirely unplugged; online components are optional.
- Girls read and discuss the Girls Who Code nonfiction book, "Girls Who Code Learn to Code and Change the World." They then complete thematically related challenges.
- Copies of Girls Who Code nonfiction books are provided along with free curriculum and support.
What You Need to Start a Code Club
- Space to host the Club
- Computers and internet for each Club member in 6-12th grade Clubs. Sorry, tablets and phones are not allowed! Computers are optional for 3-5th grade Clubs, and Girls Who Code will provide a subset of complimentary books.
- An adult who will be responsible for facilitating the Club through the Girls Who Code curriculum for 1-2 hours each week and communicating with Girls Who Code. No technical experience necessary—just a passion for the movement!

Please list Norweld as your partner affiliation on the 4th page titled About Your Club for the following question: Is your Club affiliated with a Girls Who Code Community Partner (school districts, library systems, nonprofit organization, afterschool networks etc.)?
