JOB TITLE: Youth Services Clerk I

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Library Clerk I 

DEPARTMENT: Youth Services

REPORTS TO: Youth Services Manager

 

JOB SUMMARY: Re-shelves library materials returned to the youth services department. Performs check-out and check-in of library materials and performs all duties associated with the circulation of library materials.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school graduate.
  • Keyboard and typing skills
  • Well-developed oral communication skills.
  • Basic clerical skills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: ·

  • Assist all patrons with circulation services in the youth services department
  • Re-shelve returned library materials.
  • Shelf read assigned collection areas.
  • Open and close the youth services department.
  • Check in/out and renew library materials at the youth services desk.
  • Answer routed telephone calls.
  • Accurately record cash transactions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES - continued:

  • Issue new and replacement library cards; assist patrons with registration forms.
  • Empty bookdrops as required.
  • Reserve library materials and make follow-up contact with patrons.
  • Assist patrons with basic reference and directional questions.
  • Assist patrons with library technology including computers, photocopiers, microfilm, fax, etc.
  • Attend and participate in job-related meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:

  • Requires a full range of body motion including standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires bending, stooping, a reaching in order to move library materials throughout the library.
  • Must be able to move a two-sided book cart (with four wheels) loaded with up to 100 lbs. of books or other library materials.
  • Must possess manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination when moving library materials or operating automated equipment at the library.
  • Must be able to lift boxes of books, paper, or other library materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
